A lot of people think that greed is the fundamental cause of all the suffering on this planet and I would argue that it is the “ego” not greed. There are different definitions of ego. To me ego is this “individuality”, this “act of separation”. That we are individuals, seperate from the rest. Ego is a form of mechanism to protect ourselves, to create a false sense of importance. However we could argue that no system is independent. Everything coexists with everything else. When you act in one area it creates side effects in another one. A really good example here is our impact on the environment. We think that we can continue to steal from the Earth, endlessly use her resources. We are slowly starting to learn that this is not how things work. “We are shit*ing in our own backyard and now it starts to stink”
