Father’s Day this year saw 70-year-old ice cream vendor Rosario Del Real showing up to work. His ice cream shop was set up in the sweltering heat of Chicago. But a helpful family decided that he didn’t have to work anymore. No one wants to see an old man out on the streets, pushing an ice-cream cart. While walking down the road, he chanced upon two families that were celebrating Father’s Day by organizing a barbecue party. Victor Dominguez and Oscar Gonzalez saw the man pushing the heavy cart and decided to purchase all his popsicles for the day so that he could go back home.

Karen Gonzalez, the daughter of Oscar Gonzalez, and her boyfriend decided to capture the entire incident on TikTok. Talking to the Chicago Tribune, Karen mentioned how both Oscar and Victor had lost their dads at quite an early age- leading them to feel sympathetic towards this ice cream vendor.

Rosario mentioned that he had been heavily injured before, so he couldn’t get on with his job as a carpenter. Now, he was employed in selling ice cream popsicles for cash. Incidentally, as the video went viral, they were able to earn $50,000 for the ice cream vendor.

Michaelangelo Mosqueda, Karen’s boyfriend decided to set up a GoFundMe page for this old person after the video went completely viral. This resulted in a collection of $40,000 in one day. As of now, the amount is $50000 and they have quite a life planned for the ice cream vendor. Goes without saying, Rosario was at a loss for words and didn’t know what he had done to deserve this.

The American Dream for This Ice Cream Vendor

Rosario had come to Chicago from Mexico all the way back in 1969 in order to earn enough. After becoming an official citizen a decade later, his plans shifted to simply surviving for his family. Talking to the Chicago Tribune, Rosario held many jobs in as many states- from California to Texas, to Oregon. When he moved to Chicago to finally settle down with his wife and kids, he was able to pay off the mortgage in 2015. This is when he decided to give things a break. Rosario’s daughter mentions how she still can’t believe that her father still keeps on working. He believes that work provides him with the only purpose in life.

After Rosario got injured, he asked Carlos Serrano to provide him with an ice-cream cart that would allow him to earn even a little. And while the latter was quite hesitant about it- seeing the injured state of the old man, he still decided to help him out- a sense of brotherhood.

What Gonzalez and Dominguez didn’t realize at that time was that their actions would lead to this ice cream vendor spending a happy life. He could retire now- with a lot of money at his disposal. Rosario had worked his entire life to earn money- and now that money didn’t seem to be a factor now- he could enjoy the rest of his life in peace.
