We all enjoy our beef burgers, but how many times do we stop to think where it comes from? PETA has recently shared a video that shows how a beef burger is made in reverse. While it takes guts to watch the video itself, we often forget these facts when a juicy patty is on our platter.
PETA wants to raise awareness about how cows are brutally harassed before being killed off for their meat. The beef burger that has been widely known as an American favorite has some dark secrets too. The cows are marked with a hot iron for identification. This stamping causes third-degree burns, and this procedure takes place in the ranches. The testicles of male calves are often cut off without any pain relief or just clamped tightly so that they degenerate. And the cows being raised for beef have their horns burned or cut off.

Cows don’t receive adequate medical attention and often get injured or infected in close quarters. In states like Nebraska and Wyoming, they freeze to death while in Texas and Kansas, they die from the heat.
If they survive the harsh weather and the farms, they are dragged and put inside ships as cargo. After auctioning, cows are put in feedlots in thousands. There they are fed corn and grains to fatten them faster. This unnatural diet makes them bloat. The air pressure can impact their lungs and also causes ulcers and ‘acute acidosis’.
Veganism is making its mark. And organizations like PETA are trying their best to show the world the consequences of small choices like ordering a beef burger. And for the hardcore meat lovers, many options are cropping up. Be it a 3D printed steak or other kinds of meat, you can always opt for a beef burger that was made without the sacrifice of precious life. What will you choose today?
