Greta Thunberg and her speech has sent ripples of awareness all over the globe. Her message has been heard and it has moved people to come out of their comfort zone and do something for the planet. But it is not only Greta’s speech that has kept the attention of people. Many actors have come out in support of Greta and are trying their bit to influence others to save the planet.

Jason Momoa aka Aquaman has made a speech in the UN which is quite similar and powerful in an address at the United Nations. He spoke at the Small Islands Event on 27th September and his message coincided with that of Greta – that our world leaders were not using their powers for environmental welfare. However, he did not only blame the politicians. He blamed Humanity as a whole – he called it a disease.

Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was raised in Iowa by his mother. And so, this Aquaman actor knows both sides of this world. It has made him wiser and he knows how the world has been affected over the years. During his time in Hawaii, he noticed the environmental degradation taking place in that area. He saw plastic and garbage floating all over the ocean and entering the shores. And that has only increased. Nowadays, it is said that the Pacific Ocean carries a garbage patch which is as huge as the landmass of France!

The only chief difference between Greta’s speech and Momoa’s speech is the tone. Greta was hopeful – her way of speaking was mostly parental. She wanted change. Momoa has a more nihilistic approach to the matter. He is pessimistic about human beings.

Maybe that’s why he has invited some negative comments too. Being an actor, many people disregarded his comments. According to them, he’s not a scientist, so his opinion doesn’t count.

However, there were many others who supported him, mentioning that even actors could have opinions about something as the planet they live in.

Well, it is clear that Aquaman has brought something into the discussion that has put the internet in polarized grounds.
