Irish Postal Service Is Gave Thousands Of Homeless People Fixed Addresses

Did you know? Not having a fixed address can be a major roadblock for homeless folks. That’s why the Irish postal service is launching a nationwide program that will give thousands of people who are homeless a permanent address.

The initiative was announced mid-March. According to The Independent, the postal service will be rolling out their new “Address Point” service. Homeless people will be allowed to use the service to list their local post office as a fixed address.

Without a fixed address, a homeless person cannot open a bank account, arrange medical appointments, apply for jobs, or correspond with school services. These are some of the many reasons the post office launched the initiative.

Recent reports reveal that there are now almost 10,000 Irish civilians who are homeless or lack registered addresses. Fortunately, they will soon be eligible for support from An Post. The postal service company will be working with various charities and organizations to help coordinate the new service. Expect it to be launched within the next month.

“This will provide a service for people who are in temporary accommodation who need a secure mailing address to receive post such as school correspondence, medical appointments or to apply for a job,” a postal representative said. “We will be working with a number of service providers and homeless charities on a nationwide basis.”
