A funeral in Germany ended on a high after attendees were accidentally served weed cake. After attending the ceremony in Wiethagen, 13 people met a restaurant for coffee and cake – as is customary. However, it wasn’t long before all set medical attention for nausea and dizziness
The ordeal happened in August but is only now being shared with the public out of respect. According to the Rostock police, the restaurant employee in charge of the cakes had asked her 18-year-old daughter to bake them. However, the mother accidentally took the wrong cake out of the freezer. It turns out the daughter also baked a Ganga cake.
The high was so strong, according to reports, one woman was hauled off to the hospital during the funeral. The other sought medical treatment later in the day. The 18-year-old now faces heavy charges, including 13 charges of negligence and body injury, violating German anti-narcotics laws, and disturbing a funeral.
Though it is impossible to overdose on marijuana, the side effects of ingesting too many edibles can cause one to feel unwell. Paranoia, anxiousness, and increased heart rates lasting three to six hours are all typical symptoms.
In Colorado, where recreational cannabis has been legal for approximately five years, doctors have seen multiple cases of overconsumption in adults, reports Leafly. Reportedly, much of this is due to high-concentration THC edibles.
Explained Dr. Eric Lavonas, an emergency physician and medical toxicologist at Denver Health Medical Center, “When people smoke pot, they get peak effect of the drug within a few seconds … which allows the user to self-regulate, to sort of get where you want to be.”
But with edibles, “when that train leaves the station, you don’t know where it’s going to go for 30 minutes to two hours.”
In “extreme” cases, people have gone “way over the top.” He concluded:
“They’re unable to control that behavior. But that’s uncommon compared to people who just simply feel terrible and need a little help in getting over it.”
