An Entire Italian Police Station Was Arrested For Dealing Drugs And Torturing Suspects

Shocking news comes from Piacenza, as one entire police station in Italy has been arrested. They were found guilty of indulging in several criminal activities. They include charges of drug trafficking, stealing, extortion, illegal arrest, abuse of power, torture, and coercion. 

The prosecutors have stated that the illegal activities had been going in for over 3 years. However, it increased significantly during the lockdown. 

The operation that led to the criminal charges was led by Grazia Prandella. The project is called Operation Odysseus, and the prosecutors are currently investigating 22 members of the police. At the moment, five of them are locked in. Four more have been ordered to restrict their movements. Meanwhile, the chief has been put under house arrest. However, one member of the department is still to be implicated.

In the statements given by the prosecutors, it has been revealed that the officers were also involved with local gangs. They further said that the department supplied and stockpiled drugs. They sometimes even confiscated drugs from local dealers and sold it later on. 

The police station in Italy was bugged while the investigation was going on. Audio recordings from these have also been released. In one of the conversations, one officer is heard saying that he confiscated drugs from a pedlar, out of which, he kept half. 

Police Station In Italy Found Guilty Of Helping Local Criminals 

The proceedings have further revealed a pattern of police brutality inside the department precinct. In one case, they beat up a Nigerian drug pedlar. One officer can be heard saying he thought the man was dead from the beating.

Meanwhile, another audio recording proved that they waterboarded an Egyptian man. This case has been assigned by the judge under torture. 

The investigating team also found out that the police officers helped local gangs in many of their crimes. One audio recording revealed a case of extortion, abuse, and intimidation by one officer. He can be heard saying that he physically abused an employee for a Treviso car dealership. The police officer also bragged about the crime as being similar to a book that deals with the mafia. 

Reports also came in that one officer violated the pandemic lockdowns by throwing a party at his villa. 

Politicians Condemn The Police Criminals

In another incident, one neighbor called the police, reporting unlawful gathering. Upon realizing that it was one of their officer’s home, they left without doing anything. Furthermore, the guilty officer later called his friend and asked for the audio call. He apparently wanted to know which neighbor had made the complaint.

The politicians in the region have released statements condemning the police station in Italy. However, many were careful not to question the entire police department’s integrity. 

Matteo Salvini, a representative from the Lega party, said that the mistakes of the few cannot be transferred as guilt for all uniformed men and women.
