African Migrant’s Astonishing ‘Spider-Man’ Rescue Earns Him Citizenship and a Reward

The world could use more heroes. Fortunately, each and every one of us can be one. All we have to do is stand up for the underdog(s) when an injustice is witnessed and do good in our daily lives. An individual who recently proved themselves to be a hero is Mamoudou Gassama. The 22-year-old from Mali, Africa, moved to France a few months ago.

Recently, Gassama was watching a football match in a restaurant when he noticed a crowd gathering on the street. Intrigued, he walked outside. That’s when the young man saw a boy crying and clinging to the outside of the balcony railing.

Next door neighbors were attempting to reach the boy, but were failing. Without hesitation, Gassama began to scale the building. In astonishing speed, he pulled himself up from balcony to balcony. In mere seconds, he reached the boy and pulled him to safety. As GoodNewsNetwork reports, the fire brigade hadn’t even arrived at that point.

A video shows the daring rescue. Watch it below:

After Gassama saved the boy, the crowd erupted in applause. They weren’t the only ones to praise the 22-year-old’s quick thinking. To commend the African migrant for his heroism, French President Emmanuel Macron made Gassama a naturalized citizen of France, as well as awarded him a medal for bravery. After the meeting at Elyseé Palace, Gassama was also offered a position with the fire brigade.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, also praised Gassama on Twitter. She said: “He explained to me that he arrived from Mali a few months ago with the dream of making a life for himself here. I replied that his heroic act is an example for all citizens and that the city of Paris will obviously be keen to support him in his efforts to settle in France.”
