These legends are living proof that every single one of us has the potential to achieve greatness. The society we live in often looks down upon people with disabilities. Therefore it’s even more important to get this article out. Disabled people have the same right to dignity and respect as anyone else. Let’s look at some of the extraordinary famous people with disabilities.

Harriet Tubman

At the top of our list is Harriet Tubman, the trailblazing abolitionist. She helped several African Americans escape slavery. At the age of 14, Tubman was hit on her head by a slave owner. After the incident, she developed epilepsy, which she suffered from her entire life.

Frida Kahlo

This artist that defined her generation suffered from polio as a child. She also had spinal issues along with dysmetria in her legs. And yet, her disability found a voice through her art. She is truly extraordinaire in the list of disabled people. 

Alexander Graham Bell

He is the mastermind behind the phenomenon of telephones. Graham Bell’s invention even accelerated the introduction of hearing aids. It’s also known that he was an emphatic advocate for the deaf community. Moreover, his mother and wife both suffered from deafness. It has been conjectured that Alexander Graham Bell lived with dyslexia. 

Robin Williams

William’s brilliant comedy never failed to warm our hearts. Among the famous people with disabilities, his story is possibly one of the most inspiring and heartbreaking ones. He suffered from ADHD during his childhood. Then, during his adult life, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. And then, in his later years, he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. He battled with these diseases all the while making people laugh and spreading joy. 

Helen Keller

Out of all the famous people with disabilities, Helen Keller might be one of the more famous ones. And rightly so. She was both visually impaired and deaf. In 1920, she became a pioneer by helping find the American Civil Liberties Union. Apart from that, she was also the first blind-deaf person to get her BA degree. 

Maya Angelou

A dedicated activist for civil rights, Maya Angelou has entranced us all with her writings. She also has the Presidential Medal and National Medal is Arts to her name. 

During her childhood, she suffered from selective mutism. But that did not stop her from excelling in her literary prowess.

The 32nd president of the United States suffered from polio. He even has to use a wheelchair due to paraplegia. Amidst all the difficulties, he became one of the most powerful people in the world from 1933 to 1945.
