Two Men Arrested After Drone Drops Hundreds Of Bags Of Cannabis On Tel Aviv

Two men were arrested this week in Tel Aviv after they flew a drone over Rabin Square and dropped hundreds of bags of cannabis for anyone who happened to be passing through the area. Everyone who noticed what was happening rushed in to grab as many bags as they could, which attracted even more curiosity seekers and eventually the police.
The two men belong to a Telegram group called the “green drone,” and they are hoping to make a statement in support of cannabis legalization, according to the Jerusalem Post.
עוברי אורח נהנו מהשלל@ynetalerts pic.twitter.com/xeziJsH950

“It’s time my dear brothers. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the green drone, handing out free cannabis from the sky… Enjoy my beloved brothers, this is your pilot brother, making sure we all get some free love,” a message on the Telegram page said before the drop.
The message said that the stunt was in celebration of a new project called “rain of cannabis,” which they say will be able to deliver cannabis across the country, despite the current laws against the substance.

“We’re launching the ‘rain of cannabis’ project, that will include a weekly delivery to different parts of the country of 1 kilo of cannabis divided into free 2 gram bags,” the message read.
It is not exactly clear what charges the two men are facing considering that they weren’t technically selling the cannabis but giving it away, and they weren’t technically in possession of the substance by the time the police arrived either.
Cannabis is still illegal in Israel but two bills were introduced to the country’s legislature earlier this year which could potentially lead to legalization. That potentiality is still very far off though, so these activists could end up facing serious jail time.
