This Guy Threw A Fridge Off A Bridge The Police Forced Him To Haul It Back Up

A Spanish man is in trouble with police after he was filmed throwing a used refrigerator off a cliff while making jokes about recycling. Spain’s Guardia Civil police tracked down the man in the video and demanded that he retrieve the appliance and dispose of it properly. He was also fined €45,000 under environmental crime laws.

The suspect made the fatal flaw of showing the license plate for his vehicle in the video, making it very easy for police to find him. However, the suspect’s information has not been released to the public. Police did say that the man works for a company that distributes domestic appliances, so it is possible that this incident is related to his work.

According to CNN, the Guardia Civil is investigating whether or not the company that the suspect works for is ordering their employees to dump appliances on public land. A preliminary investigation found at least 50 washing machines stored in the outer courtyard of a company’s warehouse.

In the video the man and his friend who is off-camera can be heard shouting “Recycling…let’s go recycle it!” and “Let’s see how many flips it can do!”

Later video footage appears to show the two men hauling the appliance up the cliff with a rope.

Sadly, the suspect’s dismissive attitude about recycling is disturbingly common, especially among men.

According to a recent study conducted at Penn State University, men are often afraid of recycling because they fear that it could make them look “feminine” or “gay.”

Penn State professor of psychology Janet K. Swim noted that men are less likely to exhibit environmentally friendly behavior because for some reason, the idea of caring about the environment has been associated with cultural gender roles.

“There may be subtle, gender-related consequences when we engage in various pro-environmental behaviors. People may avoid certain behaviors because they are managing the gendered impression they anticipate others will have of them. Or they may be avoided if the behaviors they choose do not match their gender,” Swim said.

Perhaps the suspects from this video are among the segment of the male population that intentionally destroys the environment to protect their strange and fragile sense of masculinity.
