In January 2016, newlyweds Lexi and Danny Reed decided to make a major life change. Like most US citizens, they knew they needed to eat healthier and exercise more often. However, they lacked the motivation to follow through. Then, a friend suggested they try a 30-day healthy eating challenge. The decision to partake changed their lives forever.

ABC News reports that when Lexi and Danny started the challenge, they weighed 485 and 280 pounds, respectively. For 30 days, they agreed to avoid eating out, eliminate cheat meals, and stop their consumption of soda and alcohol. “The hardest part of our journey was changing our relationship with food,” said Lexi.

#transformationtuesday losing 312lbs mean I also lost the feeling of being a prisoner in my own body. I spent 25 years unable to do so many things and overthinking my every action or event due to my size. Honestly, it was exhausting. Being on the other side I have no regrets looking back other than I wish I would have started sooner. However the most important thing is that I did start. I didnt know where my path would lead but i knew I couldn't keep going down the same road. I knew it was up to me to change my life and to learn as I went along. Dont wait for another year or day to pass you by. Break out of your prison and start today! #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fedupfam #fit #fitfam #fitspo #motivation #fatloss #fattofit #obesetobeast #workout #dance #diet #dietbet #fitnessmotivation #fatgirlfedupsdietbet #fitness #losingweight #fitnessmotivation #fitfam  #plussize #gym #effyourbeautystandards #extremeweightloss

Prior to the challenge, the couple spent most evenings on the couch, binge-watching television and mindlessly eating food. “My husband and I would go out to eat for almost every single meal and if we did cook at home, it was frozen pizza or anything else unhealthy,” said Lexi.

The couple, from Terre Haute, Indiana, relate to their bodies differently. Whereas Lexi grew up overweight, Danny put on pounds after he stopped playing sports. Regardless, they both had the same mission: to lose weight and get healthy. And, that’s exactly what they did.

One of the first changes was to prep meals, rather than eat out. Knowing what they were eating enabled them to track their calories and reduce their consumption of unhealthy additives (food colorings, preservatives, etc…). “We found that by meal-prepping instead of relying on fast food, we were able to stick with our goals when we were at work. And by learning to cook our own meals we were in charge of what we were eating,” said Lexi.

The couple also added exercise into their regime. Even though at times, it was uncomfortable, they continued to push each other to work out regularly. Most importantly, they held each other accountable.

“Doing this as a couple has helped us in so many ways,” said Lexi. “On days when we were unmotivated, we pushed each other to go to the gym,” she continued. “Day by day or pound by pound we grew closer throughout our journey.”

#throwback to the first time I was able to finally ride a bike again at over 300lbs. I smile at the picture on the left because it was such a NSV that meant so much to me. It reminded me that its not about the weight that you lose, but the life you gain. It reminded me that losing weight shouldn't be boring, can be fun, doesn't have to be in a gym, and to fall in love with the journey in new ways. I used to ride my bike to school growing up and some of my fondest memories are riding bikes with all the kids in the neighborhood. Riding a bike brings back memories of the days when I felt like I was free from all of lifes punches and free to live in the moment. Riding a bike is something so small to some people but something so mentally freeing for me. Dont forget to enjoy your journey and do things that make you feel alive! #weightloss #bike #cycling #workout #fitness #exercise #fattofit #bikeriding #fattofit #obesetobeast #fitfam #fedupfam #motivation #fatgirlfedupsdietbet #transformation #motivationmonday #cardio #weightlossjourney #fit #gym #bicycle

Over a period of two years, Danny and Lexi lost a total of 395 pounds combined.

We were willing to learn every single day of our journey and we also started using the gym as therapy instead of food,” explained Lexi. “By changing our minds, habits and emotional triggers, we changed our lives.”

#waybackwednesday to my loose skin after losing 312lbs. Losing that much weight meant I was left with alot of skin, and alot of pain. I had 7lbs removed in a 9 hour survey Oct 31, 2018 with @drjosephmichaels and it literally changed my life and showed me the results i'd worked hard for with diet and exercise. I never knew loose skin could cause pain and spent many months trying to find out what was wrong with me until my husband held my stomach to show me what I'd look like without it and for the first time in months, I was pain free. However despite the loose skin struggles for the first time in my life I was living and it was just a beautiful battle scar from the hardest fight of my life. My skin gave me pain, but didnt hold me back from living. Speak nicely to yourself because you're always listening! ——————————————————————————– Ready to transform in 2019? NEXT DIETBET STARTS 2/11!! Lexi says that going from a size 28 to a size 10 feels like she received a second chance at life.

“There are no words to explain the feeling of saving your own life,” she said. “I no longer am a prisoner in my own body and instead of just existing in my own life, I’m finally alive. Every day I wake up is a blessing.”

#flashbackfriday @discoveringdanny asked me out on February 3, 2007 and I never realized the life I would live by choosing to say yes. ❤ I never imagined someone to show me what true love was and to impact my life in so many ways. I never imagined someone to support me in reaching my goals, or help me become who I am today. I never expected that someone would love me at 485lbs they way that I loved myself. He is proof that love is real, my soul mate, and happy to say has been through my side through thick or thin without ever acting any differently towards me. Dont give up on love because it does exist and you are worthy of the love you deserve. ——————————————————————————– Ready to transform in 2019? NEXT DIETBET STARTS 2/11!!
