Located deep in the centre of the brain, the pineal gland plays an important role in spiritual experience. While attending art school, Shawn Thornton unknowingly developed cancer of the pineal gland. This saw his art transform into a myriad of complex scenes that many find reminiscent of DMT experiences.
Thornton had pineal gland cancer long before his diagnosis. He was uninsured, unemployed and admits that he had faced “medical negligence.” Wholly unaware of his condition, Thornton furthered his education in art and began to produce paintings that were “laden with intricacies, schematics and windy connections.” His manifestations depict a world which is fluid, yet jarring, beautiful, yet chaotic. The paintings feel spiritual and are a sight to behold.
Shaun’s story via Reddit
I suffered from a slow growing cancer in my pineal gland while I attended art school and during subsequent years while my paintings developed with an underlined mythology that alluded directly to the pineal years before I even know of its existence.
I think I’d work myself into a frenzy for a while and yes, when I would fall lie down in bed I’d have something like a manic episode that was very lucid and visionary. That still applies to this day, but I try to control it better so I don’t get sick again.
I’ve had a lot of truly mystical and otherworldly experiences as a result of my history and battle with brain cancer and I’m really drawn to things that resonate with a certain powerful energy, and I’m always honing in on that more and more. whether consciously or subconsciously.
I treat depression with mushrooms. Haven’t done DMT ‘intentionally’. Man made chemicals are a thing of the past for me, as I’m really sensitive.
Perhaps, the injury to Thornton’s brain caused a channel to open, allowing him to connect with the soul and to experience a spiritual connection to the world and himself. Thornton’s paintings are heavily infused with the symbolism and mythology of the pineal gland. Through his work, we are able to get a glimpse of another realm and it’s truly amazing.
