Ever thought how a baby would look with adult teeth? If that image is disturbing, what do you think of this sheepshead fish with human-like teeth? Yes, what you are looking at is a native of the Atlantic, found along the Gulf coasts of the US.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources posted some images of this special fish with its pearly whites back in 2018.

As expected, it went viral for its unique feature. The SCDNR post explains how this fish with human-like teeth likes to eat hard-shelled food like shrimps and oysters. These chompers help them crush the food. They also enjoy fiddler crabs and barnacles.

The sheepshead fish have multiple rows of molars behind the front teeth that help them grind the food as they chew. Their jaws are impressive too. The fish is known to bite off metal fishhooks into pieces with their strong jaw and set of human-like teeth.

But all is not all with these fish. Fishermen often target these fish for their size. The species was also at risk in the past because of overfishing. But now the numbers are reviving. You can spot these 20-pound fish if you dive around mangrove roots, piers, and jetties.
Many netizens exclaimed how they themselves have caught this fish and how good they taste. But is it right for us to drive such animals to extinction just because the meat tastes good? These fish with human-like teeth have the perfect human-like smile. Isn’t that reason enough to make sure the species survives and thrives?
