The movie called “A Wrinkle In Time” is based upon a 1962 book of the same name, which explores something called “Tesseract”, which is a glimpse into the 4th dimension of reality.

The Disney movie which is due to be released in March 2017 follows the story of a young woman named Meg, who after learning that her astrophysicist father has been taken prisoner on a distant planet, delves deep into an evil universe, trying to place a dark cloud on humanity.

Along her journey Meg meets three astral travelers, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit, to help save him. The 3 travelers are played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.

The film may not be as far moved from reality as it first appears, with the main concept being spoken about being that of Tesseract:

Tesseract

From Wikipedia: In geometry, the tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of six square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of eight cubical cells. The tesseract is one of the six convex regular 4-polytopes.

Basically the Tesseract is to see the world through another dimension, something which many believe is not possible from our current level of consciousness. A further understanding of this is outlined below by high school YouTuber who goes by the name “xkcdHatGuy”

Astral Travel

One of the main themes of A Wrinkle In Time is that of astral travel, which could be explained using the Tesseract and an expansion of the Tesseract. If you think of the square as 2 dimensional, the cube as 3 dimensional and the Tesseract as 4 dimensional this will give you an image for reference.

A square has 1 face, a cube 6 faces, while a Tesseract has 24- each all exist within the same space, but can only be conceived by someone who is of the dimensional understanding of said reality. Each of the 1, 6 or 24 faces could represent a different astral plane and when you move into the 5th dimension, 6th dimension and beyond the amount of faces/planes grow.

All the space exist within our space, but we cannot see them or access them, or at least this is what is generally accepted as the truth.

This, to my understanding is what astral travel is, being able to slice through these dimensions and get a glimpse of a reality which exists outside of our current being or to put it another way perceiving the world outside of our 3 dimensional bodily understanding of reality.

So when you can travel in a higher dimension you can literally jump across space, giving the perception of teleportation. Time can be bent and warped and the laws we are accustomed to change drastically. What is really interesting to think about is the Tesseract is a square, there must be many dimensional realities for triangles, circles and all other shapes- in an endless array of geometrics and patterns.

A Wrinkle In Time is really stepping over into something that many spiritualists, shaman and seekers have been living within for a very long time. It may seem to be just another fantasy movie, but the reality is, it is opening a box for exploration into a mystical world that many are trying to understand.
