This baseball player just hit a philanthropic home run. Cole Hamel, who served as a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers before signing with the Chicago Cubs, recently donated his $9.4 million estate to help special needs kids.

The estate was donated to Camp Barnabas, a nonprofit that facilitates summer camps and outdoor experiences for special needs children with chronic illnesses, as well as their siblings. The 32,000-square-foot mansion is situated on 100 acres of land. According to GoodNewsNetwork, it is located on the shoreline of Table Rock Lake.

Hamels and his wife decided to donate the property to the foundation to make a positive difference in the lives of others. To no one’s surprise, the donation is the largest Camp Barnabas has ever received.

“Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it,” Hamels said. “Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.”

When the Hamels originally purchased the property, they had plans to turn it into their dream home. But, then the World Series MVP was traded to the Rangers team. So, they relocated to Dallas and pondered who to gift the land to.

Andrea Harp, the Barnabas director of marketing, said the donation “is a game-changer.” She added, “The lives that will be changed as a result of this will have a ripple effect for years to come. Already, it’s so surreal seeing the Barnabas mission and the story covered on national outlets. That is the Barnabas mission being shared way beyond our corner in southwest Missouri. It’s incredibly rewarding. People who have never heard of Barnabas before, who don’t know who we are, now know who we are and know our passion.”
