Former Model That Went Through Horrific Accident, Got Happily Married After

Turia Pitt was a model and a beautiful one at that. She was once, running a marathon in Australia and got trapped in a bush fire. Turia suffered from severe burns on exposed parts of her body and the doctors who were treating her were not sure if she would make it.
It was at this point that Michael Hoskin, her boyfriend, quit his profession as a police officer to take care of his girlfriend, full-time. The couple fell on hard times, for sure, but he bravely chose to stay by her side.

Turia had undergone more than 200 operations. The former model had to spend 2 years for recovery from the burns all over her body.
She reflected on the incident and felt a “bubbling feeling of panic.”
The model had described on her website, “I remember the hot Kimberley sun beating down, burning my already burnt skin. I remember accidentally sitting on a bull ant nest. Staring in confusion as the ants started swarming across my legs. I remember trying to drink some water but spitting it out because it was boiling hot. I remember seeing bits of my skin stuck to the rocks and spinifex.”
Turia’s thoughts turned to her savior. She kept telling herself, ‘Think of his warm face, think of his honey voice, think of his golden skin. Keep thinking about Michael.” She remembered how the sun started to set, the heat started dissipating, the breeze became chilly. She remembers saying, “I don’t know if I can stay much longer. And then, I remember salvation.”
Saving Turia From The Inferno
The former model was saved from the fire by a helicopter, which was piloted by Paul Cripp. Paul was a hero as he had risked his own life to save her and other runners.
Pitt spoke about Paul being her savior. He had flown her towards help and took her to the nurses and doctors for more assistance. She added, “ I also didn’t know how dangerous it had been for him to fly down the gorge to us. That balancing the chopper on one skid was the result of sheer gutsiness and extreme skill.”
Living Happily Ever After
Michael asked Turia to marry him in 2015, with a diamond ring, which he had bought when she was in the ICU, 4 years earlier. Turia had to wear a mask for 2 more years to cover up her injuries as they were still raw. Michael stuck by her side throughout the entire recovery phase and kept reminding her, “You’re beautiful.”
The couple had suffered and fought against obstacles but were happily married in 2016. It was tough for them for the last 7 years, but all is well that ends well.
Michael and Turia did their best and worked together to move forward in life and rebuild themselves again.
“She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her. She just wants to get on with her life,” Michael said. “She’s beautiful, she’s amazing.”
Michael was asked in an interview if he had ever considered leaving the former model’s side and hiring a professional to take care of her, to which he replied, “I married her soul, her character, and she’s the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams.”
2017 saw Turia announce that she was pregnant with their firstborn. She did not run a marathon that year but was still in pristine condition. Michael and Turia became parents to their son, Hakavai on December 7, 2017. They welcomed their next son, Rahiti, on February 9, 2020.
