The Californian famous festival Coachella is in the spotlight again this week following the recent announcement of the all-star lineup, including headliners Radiohead, Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar.
However, with this announcement also comes the recently uncovered revelation that festival owner, Philip Anschutz, is a major financial support of anti-LGBTQ organisations as well as groups which deny the science of climate change, as reported by CoS.
Anschutz owns the festival’s parent company, called AEG Live, which is the global entertainment company which owns the Coachella festival, as well as operating the O2 arena.
Reports have found that the Anschutz Foundation has donated $175,000 to the Mission America Foundation since 2008, which is a foundation against LGBTQ rights and same-sex marriage, as well as supporting anti-gay legislation which includes Colorado’s Amendment 2.
Anschutz, who was once named as the “greediest executive” of the year, is also believed to have financial links to the Koch brothers, the oil and gas billionaires, who provide enormous amounts of money to fund climate change denial. Together with this Anschutz has also backed anti-union organisations and think tanks challenging evolutionary science.
