The UNWFP (United Nations’ World Food Programme) stated that a tiny group of ultra-wealthy individuals like Elon Musk could help solve problems like world hunger, with only a fraction of their net worth.
David Beasley an executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme stated that the billionaires should step up now as a one-timer and cited the two richest men in the world- Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. He added that all they had to do was to donate $6 billion to help the needy 42 million people who could die without proper care. Such a thing was not complicated at all.
The Statement Dropped By The UN Regarding The Billionaires
The chief executive of Tesla, Elon Musk, has a net worth of $289 billion which means that Beasley has only asked for a donation which is equal to 2% of his entire fortune. Since the start of the pandemic, the net worth of US billionaires has doubled and is currently at $5.04 trillion. These researches were conducted by the Institute for Policy Studies and Americans for Tax Fairness.

Beasley added that several crises had accumulated including the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate changes which made some countries experience famines. The majority of people in Afghanistan face extreme hunger according to a WFP report. The total number of people suffering from hunger is around 22.8 million. The people are also facing a high rate of unemployment and the liquidity crisis has cost the country to fall into a predicament on humanitarian grounds. Around 3 million children are at risk in the war-torn country of Afghanistan.
The Biden administration had dropped reports where it is stated that the effects of climate change would be wide and could pose problems for several governments. This change in climate is also pushing for migration and the WFP has dropped several warnings regarding this issue in the “Dry Corridor” in Central America. The Dry Corridor includes countries like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Elon Musk Responds To The Comments
Elon Musk had dropped his own reply to such comments and stated that he would sell off Tesla stocks and donate the amount to the UN only if the UN could prove that such a tiny percentage of his wealth could save millions of lives.
He is challenging the claim about the specific amount that could solve human crises. He dropped his reply on Twitter and also demanded complete transparency about how the money would be spent if he really did donate.
Beasley later clarified that the UNWFP had never said that $6 billion could solve the world’s hunger but this one-time donation could save 42 million people under this unmatchable hunger crisis.
