As automation takes over many other jobs, even Walmart is now employing a smoothie-making bot. A startup names Blendid has collaborated with Walmart to open a kiosk at the Fremont Walmart, California. This is the fourth Bay area location for them.
This kiosk with a smoothie-making bot will be open 7 days a week. Customers can order their 12-ounce smoothies here, which will be prepared by an autonomous robot. It takes about 3 minutes to prepare each custom made smoothie.

Vipin Jain is the co-founder and CEO of Blendid. He told Digital Trends that consumers can place their orders by the Blendid app or by scanning a QR code situated at the Walmart kiosk. He further explained how customers can browse through their menu of smoothies made from whole fruits and vegetables. Each drink can be customized to their preference, and the order is placed. When the smoothie-making bot has prepared the drink, customers get a text message for contactless pickup. Once the pickup is confirmed, the bot will serve the drink.
The news of a smoothie-making bot is news-worthy any time of the year. But when we are in the middle of a pandemic, it is of all the more significance. Blendid has been quite successful in their endeavors, opening 4 outlets in less than 2 years. The service industry has taken a massive hit this year, yet Blendid has managed to keep its foot on the ground.

Jain said: “Contactless food prep is now a necessity, and it is something that robots inherently deliver. Blendid has seen a tremendous rise in demand since COVID-19 started — and we’re grateful to be in a position to help.”
After months of staying indoors, people are now venturing outside again. This smoothie-making bot surely makes a trip to Walmart all the more exciting!
