Soul Kitchen is managed by the JBJ Foundation and is a non-profit organization. The JBJ Foundation is led by Bon Jovi. The plates at Soul Kitchen do not carry a price tag. You can pay for the bill if you want. If you indeed decide to pay, they will kindly ask for a 20-dollar donation. If you can’t pay, that’s fine too. Even if you are homeless. You might want to volunteer in the future.

As per the website, donations make up about 51% of the meals. The 49% left was from the free-work of the volunteers.
There are three establishments, the first opening up in 2011. The location: the Red Bank area present in New Jersey. Bon Jovi was born here and he named his fourth album after it. The second restaurant came up in 2016 near Toms River. This was affected by Hurricane Sandy that shook the entire country back in 2012.
He explained that their motto was to bring about a positive transformation in people regarding homelessness and hunger. Hence, he added, there was no price but an opportunity to volunteer and help others. No reservation-scheme is there too. It’s a first come first serve basis. Plus, to promote socialization, strangers share their tables.

The menu is fascinating too. It has three courses. The first is a salad or soup. The main course is generally red meat, fish or white meat. You can have a vegetarian option as well as gluten-free food. The last is dessert as per the season. The meals are prepared properly and from ingredients collected fresh from the garden. The menu changes every 10 days too.

Just these 2 establishments are not the only thing that the JBJ Foundation can boast about. It has also built homes for the homeless in Philadelphia. It has funded the construction of proper centers for teenage moms as well as a shelter for homeless people. His wife, Dorothea Hurley, is also on the same mission. Tackling poverty and homelessness with grants and programs is their chief objective.
