90-Year-Old Woman Passes On Cancer Treatment To Explore The USA With Her Dog

An elderly woman who decided to pass on chemotherapy treatment has proven that life can be sweet, even if you are battling a chronic illness.

It all began three years ago when 90-year-old Norma was watching over her husband of 67 years, Leo. While he received care at the hospice, Norma received a routine exam to check her health. Surprisingly, doctors found a large, likely-cancerous mass on her uterus.

Two days later, Leo passed away. At this point, Norma had a decision to make: embrace chemotherapy or live what was left of her life to the fullest.

When her doctor asked if she would like to schedule appointments for surgery, radiation, and then chemo, the 101-pound, five-foot tall woman told him: “I’m 90-years-old, I’m hitting the road.”

Norma’s kids sympathized and supported her decision. And, because they couldn’t leave her to brave the loss of Leo and new adventures alone, they also joined her.

The 90-year-old woman hit the road with her son, daughter-in-law, and their Poodle, Ringo, in their RV.

I’m having the time of my life! I’m done with doctors,” said Norma.

Good relays that Norma’s gynaecologist was more than encouraging. Not only did he tell her “Right on!”, but he also said:

“As doctors, we see what cancer treatment looks like everyday. ICU, nursing homes, awful side effects and honestly, there is no guarantee she will survive the initial surgery to remove the mass. You are doing exactly what I would want to do in this situation. Have a fantastic trip!”

While travelling around the US, Norma’s pain reduced slightly. It seems sunshine, travel, and family is a good prescription for terminal illness.

In fact, signs of cancer have reportedly reduced. During their time on the road, Norma and her family have explored New Mexico, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Florida.

She’s soared over lands in a hot air balloon, visited Disney World, and participated in a Native American ceremony. The entire time, she has also maintained an optimistic and grateful attitude.

When asked how she’s kept her positive attitude, she told Good News Network“Just keep on going every day, that’s about it.”

Concerning loss, she said:

“Keep praying every day and God will take care of you, even when it feels like you can’t care for yourself.”
