When one is depressed, the world become a little less bright. Casual events or conversations which might have otherwise inspired delight are instead received as ordinary, if not downright depressing. Though this is a somber reality, it is one millions of individuals around the world struggle with every day.

While it is possible to overcome depression and view the world in color again, it’s an affliction which deserves to be acknowledged because it has become so pervasive in the modern world. One artist who understands this is DestinyBlue. The British illustrator uses Anime-inspired portraits to tell her personal story of struggling with depression.

Whether her intention is to convey her deep emotions or connect with others, it is unknown. What is common knowledge is that her work, which she began posting on DeviantArt in 2004, has become massively popular due to the vivid characters she imagines and her style of imagery.
