This Salt Water Battery Won’t Corrode And Can Power Your Home For 10 Years

Every day, new innovations which have profound implications due to their sustainability factors are being unveiled. One of the most recent is a salt water battery that is no bigger than a dishwasher yet can power your home for years.

According to CNBC, Aquion Energy developed a sustainable off-grid solar battery, powered by Aspen Solar batteries, that can handle daily use and requires zero maintenance. Because the batteries can handle up to 3,000 full cycles, or 3,000 days and nights, they can literally power one’s home for over 10 years.

Rather than use two lead plates submerged in a solution of sulfuric acid and water to generate energy, the salt water batteries use a solution of salt water. In result, they are far better for the environment and can last an astonishing amount of time. Best of all, the batteries have no chemicals to leak and will not corrode. It’s because Aspen Solar Batteries have been proven to be sustainable that they are the first to ever receive the Cradle to Cradle Certification™.

The batteries, which will operate during power outages, will cost a consumer $1,000 to $3,000. At present, 10 dealers in the United States are selling the salt water batteries. As The Homestead Guru explains, the batteries’ main competition are lithium ion batteries that are composed of toxic materials and pollute the environment. Lithium ion batteries are also flammable, whereas the Aspen Solar Battery is not. In fact, the company even tried to set its batteries on fire, which you can watch below:

The new design for the batteries allows a homeowner to discharge the output down to 90%. This ensures all the power is harnessed and none goes to waste. In contrast, lead batteries are only able to be discharged to 50%. If you’re interested in purchasing a salt water battery, visit Aquion’s website.
