This time, Starbucks, the famous coffee chain, is bringing in their guns – phasing out single-use plastic straws. They have a proper alternative for it too – a strawless cold-cup lid which looks like a sippy cup but for adults. Starbucks has been planning to eliminate plastic straws for a long time and they have strategies to do so globally by 2020. As of now, many Starbucks stores all over Canada and the USA have initiated the process of throwing away their plastic straws.

Well, you might be asking – isn’t the new replacement also plastic? Yes – but the key term here is single-use. This lid is made of polypropylene, a substance that can make the lid reusable. It is sustainable and hence, a definite evolution from single-use plastic straws.
