This Photographer Followed Squirrels With His Camera For 6 Years And Here Are Some Of His Best Photos

By Mayukh Saha

Geert Weggen, a professional photographer, is a Dutch/Swedish internationally awarded personality who specializes in something very unique: photographing red squirrels.
He is so fascinated with the little animals that he followed them for six long years, photographing their every move.
Six years ago, quoting him verbatim, a fox visited him and he fed it some meat from his fridge. As it came back again and again, he got the opportunity to take its photographs.
The fox, conditioned by this kind treatment, became interactive towards the camera equipment.
A week or two later a rare Russian bird came and the same process was repeated.
His balcony has transformed into a mini studio where he could photograph these animals.
The red squirrels were the final addition, making his balcony a truly magnificent cornucopia of wildlife.
Geert did something unexpected after this: he organized bi-yearly workshops for about three squirrels at a time, for five days at a time. The results really brought out the personalities of these wonderful creatures.
Read on to see his 50 best photographs.
