This Anxiety Suffering Rescue Goat Only Calms Down In Her Duck Costume

Meet Polly, a special baby goat who found a permanent home at the goat rescue group Goats of Anarchy. The sanctuary is managed and run by Leanne Lauricella and is located in New Jersey, USA

According to Lauricella, Polly is blind, has neurological problems, suffers from extreme anxiety, and is severely underweight. These issues cause her to act erratically. For instance, when her owner isn’t home, the goat runs around and bleats until she finds something to comfort her. One of the habits Polly adopted to soothe herself is to suck on walls.

“She’ll find a corner of a wall in the house, and she’ll just start sucking on the wall. So all the corners in our house have these little suck marks from her mouth,” said Lauricella.

Fortunately, an unexpected solution to Polly’s anxiety was found when Lauricella went shopping. The goat caretaker was browsing aisles when she came across a number of costumes which included a duck costume with a big orange bill and two webbed feet. The animal rights activist thought the costume would look cute on the newly adopted goat – and was right. However, she also learned that the duck costume could also cause Polly to completely relax.

Lauricella told The Dodo: 

“As soon as I put it on her, she just instantly got calm.”

“There’s something about that duck costume that calms her. She goes into a little trance. She just closes her eyes and she’s out,” she added.

Incredibly, the duck costume even allows Lauricella to run errands with the young goat. As the photo below shows, once Polly is placed into the duck costume, she passes out.

Lauricella has purchased other costumes for Polly to wear, but the duck costume remains to be the young animal’s favorite. Following are some adorable photos of the special goat.

When she puts on the ducks costume, however, she completely relaxes.
