Russian Artists Use Clever Optical Illusion To ‘Delete’ Car From Real World

What’s real and what’s not? If life truly is a holographic projection, then this art installation is more than cool — it’s absolutely trippy!

In Russia, a group of street artists collaborated to create a spectacular optical illusion that looks like Photoshop, but in real life. Titled CTRL+X, the real-world illusion is a reference to a keyboard common in Photoshop that deletes a section from an image.

The artists created the clever illusion by covering the dumpster and car with white paint. Then, they projected a pattern onto the objects from a specific angle from which one is intended to view the scene. The artists then used the projection as a guide to mask off the white checkers with tape. Everything else was then spray-painted gray.

As Bored Panda reports, Stenograffia, an annual Russian street art festival, inspired the project. Though there is little use for CTRL+X other than inspiring the mind, it is a curious project worth sharing nonetheless.
