Elon Musk Releases Rap Devoted to Haramabe the Fallen Gorilla [Listen]

Elon Musk is many things. He is the co-founder of Tesla, founder of PayPal and SpaceX, and all-around badass who does what he wants (remember the “Not a Flamethrower”?). So, it really shouldn’t be surprising that the tech mogul released a rap (just in time for April Fools’ Day) devoted to Harambe the gorilla.

As you may remember, Harambe was shot and killed in 2016 after a three-year-old boy fell into the gorilla enclosure. Though he was not harmed by the 17-year-old Western lowland gorilla, the toddler was dragged around the exhibit. Long story short, many fans still empathize with the great ape to this day. And, Musk is apparently one of them.

On Saturday, Musk — or “Emo G” — released a link to the rap with the caption, “This might be my finest work.” Within hours, the track racked up more than one million listens and 2,000 shares. Prized lyrics include “RIP Harambe/Sipping on some Bombay/We on our way to heaven/Amen, Amen” and “RIP Harambe/Smoking on some strong/In the gorilla zoo/And we thinking about you.”

Despite dropping three years after Harambe’s death, the response has been — for the most part — kind of positive. People are also just really confused.

Though we will never know the gorilla’s response to the tribute, Musk oughta be chuffed about the fact that Wikipedia has since listed him as a “technology entrepreneur, investor, engineer, and rapper.”
