A Captive Tiger Has Been Killed After It Mauled A Tourist Who Climbed Into Its Enclosure To Avoid Paying Zoo Entrance Fee
A tourist has died after climbing into a tiger’s enclosure at a Chinese zoo to avoid paying the £15 entrance fee, simultaneously causing the tiger to be killed.
Footage has emerged, together with witness accounts, of the man being bitten and clawed at by three hungry tigers. Reports claim that the man climbed the fences of the tiger enclosure to avoid the entrance fee, even though his wife and children were already inside the zoo with paying tickets.
The Youngor Wildlife Park in the city of Ningbo, in East China, has since released a statement saying, “Zhang climbed over a three-metre wall from the northwest side of the zoo, ignoring signs along the wire fence, before scaling over another three-metres into the tiger enclosure.”
The footage filmed by onlookers shows one of the tigers dragging the man underneath some trees, after he had travelled towards them as they were eating. The tiger then proceeds to plunge its teeth into the man’s neck as two other tigers watch closely. According to local reports in China, visitors to the zoo raised an alarm when they saw the man being attacked, but it took zoo staff an hour to retrieve the man from the tiger. Zoo staff reportedly used firecrackers and a water cannon to fend the tigers off the man, but eventually ending up shooting and killing one of the tigers.
One witness said that the man could not escape from the tiger, claiming, “I saw the tiger mauling the person, whose face was covered with blood. Every time he sat up, the tiger pushed him down again.” The man was rushed to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
This report comes just a day after a white Bengal tiger escaped from a travelling circus onto the streets of Sicily. After which he was again captured and forced back into his small cage to continue with circus performances.
Previous to this have been recent reports earlier this month of a vet and his assistant being mauled to death by three lions in a wildlife park in Jordan, which were eventually put down.
