Due To The Coronavirus Outbreak Corona Beer To Halt Production

The Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo announced on Thursday that they will suspend production. They produce Corona, Pacifico and Modelo which they export to over 180 countries.

The Mexican government declared a health emergency this week that includes the suspension of all non-essential activities till the 30th of April to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. On Thursday Mexico had 1510 coronavirus cases and 50 deaths.

Food production and agriculture is considered essential activities,however beer production is not a current essential activity.

The company said in a statement: “We are in the process of lowering production at our plants to the bare minimum” they added that they would complete the suspension in the following days.

They also said: “If the federal government considers it appropriate to issue some clarification confirming beer as an agro-industrial product, at Grupo Modelo we are ready to execute a plan with more than 75% of our staff working from home and at the same time guaranteeing the supply of beer,”
