There is no denying the merit of natural medicine. However, there is more to the creation of vibrant health than herbs, crystals, and energy medicine. To dispel some of the myths surrounding holistic remedies, InformationIsBeautiful.net and AndyPerkins.org published an Infographic that offers insight on which vitamins, herbs, and supplements are proven to benefit human health, and which ones are snake oil (or don’t work).
Tip: The larger the circle is, the more the often the supplement is researched in search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The blue bubbles are generally recognized as useful whereas the most useless supplements appear at the bottom of the infographic in yellow/lime green.
As you can view above, there is little to no evidence supporting the consumption of silica, noni, gingko biloba, or beta carotene in supplement form. On the other hand, folic acid, green tea, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, St. John’s Wort, and fish oil have been proven to be worthwhile investments.
