Chugging a soda before bedtime, staying up late, slouching while eating and staring at a phone, failing to ever visit the gym (even though you paid for an annual membership) and other bad habits might be easy to adopt, but they are considered “unhealthy” for a reason. Even though most people are aware they should eat cleaner, exercise more and think more positive thoughts, it’s the minority who actually do. In fact, until someone develops a health condition or is confronted with a life-altering event, rarely do they willingly decide to adopt healthier habits. It’s because of this that a lifestyle overhaul shared by a woman on social media has garnered so much attention.
Fed up with being overweight and unhealthy, a 4 ft 10” woman who goes by the name melephants decided to improve her lifestyle. With a starting weight of 143 lbs, she began eating properly, counted calories, went to the gym four to five times per week. As Bored Panda relays, she started eating more protein-rich meals which feature chicken, fish and “a lot of veggies.” She reduced her carbohydrate intake (which is not recommended for everyone) and gradually started incorporating exercise.
After changing up her exercise regime, she settled on doing more HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) which produced the most results. She also works out her lower body two-to-three times per week and her upper body twice per week. Smaller changes to her lifestyle include standing instead of sitting on the train, drinking more water and refraining from buying high-fat, high-sugar snacks while on-the-go.
Has all the effort been worth it? She says “yes.” Melephants wrote, “Honestly, it’s not only benefited my physical health but my mental health too.” She added that it was the “best decision I’ve ever made!”
