This Company Wants All Employees To Get Microchipped In Their Hands

By Amanda Froelich Truth Theory

Will the right to privacy soon become obsolete? Many are questioning exactly this, now that a Wisconsin technology company is pushing for all of its employees to receive rice-sized microchips which would be used to scan into the building and to purchase food at work. While the microchips might offer convenience, they will undoubtedly contribute to a loss of privacy — and that is a right many aren’t ready to relinquish.

USA Today reports that Three Square Market, a company that provides technology for break-room or micro-markets is planning on implanting the devices in its 50 employees. The tiny chip uses RFID technology (or Radio-Frequency Identification) and can be implanted between the thumb and forefinger in a matter of seconds, according to the company.

Said CEO Todd Westby in a statement: “We foresee the use of RFID technology to drive everything from making purchases in our office break room market, opening doors, use of copy machines, logging into our office computers, unlocking phones, sharing business cards, storing medical/health information, and used as payment at other RFID terminals. Eventually, this technology will become standardized allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, all purchasing opportunities, etc.”

The company has partnered with Swedish company BioHax International which reportedly has already “chipped” its employees. Those that work for Three Square Market won’t be required to receive the microchip, but will be encouraged to do so. Additionally, there is no GPS tracking in the devices, according to Westby.

Having the technology implanted in one’s body would make transactions easier and identify theft more difficult to produce, but the positive and negative repercussions of implanting a rice-sized microchip into one’s body need to be thoroughly comprehended before one commits to receiving the device.
