After being eliminated from Wimbledon by American tennis player Sam Querrey, British tennis player Andy Murray agreed to partake in a press conference. When he interrupted a reporter to call out sexism, however, what might have been an ordinary interview turned into a viral sensation.

During the press conference, a reporter asked the athlete, “Andy, Sam is the first U.S. player to reach a major semi-final since 2009. How would you describe the—?”

It was then that Murray casually interfered, stating: “Male player.”

There was a pause and the reporter replied, “I beg your pardon?”

To which Murray responded, “Male player, right?” The British tennis player felt compelled to correct the reporter, as Serena Williams has won 12 Grand Slam tournaments since 2009. TWELVE.

After being confronted, the reporter tried to laugh it off the “casual sexism.” Murray wasn’t having any of it, however. As a result, people around the world are praising the athlete, who is currently ranked as the no. 1 male player in the world. His mother, Judy, proudly tweeted: “That’s my boy.”
