Maria Branyas, a 113-year-old Spanish national, has made a full recovery from the coronavirus.

It’s the third major ordeal she has lived through, having survived the flu pandemic of 1918-19 as well as the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War.

A mother of three, grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 13, Maria was diagnosed with the coronavirus after Spain went into lockdown in March.

Now after weeks of isolation, during which time she exhibited only mild symptoms, Maria has made a full recovery.

“Now that she is well, she is wonderful. She wants to speak, to explain, to make her reflections, it is her again,” her daughter stated on Twitter.

Branyas was born in Mexico in 1907 and moved to San Francisco in 1909. She arrived in Girona, Spain during World War One with her father, a Spanish journalist.

She has resided for the past two decades at a care-home in the city of Olot.

It’s widely been thought that elderly people and those suffering with existing ailments are more likely to die from Covid-19.
