Woman Who Visited and Fed Chained Up Dog For One Year Finally Gets to Adopt Her
By Mandy Froelich / Truth Theory
Meet Takia, a well-behaved dog who once lived life on a short leash. Since being rescued by her former next-door neighbor Laura Seymour, she now lives a much plusher life.
The Dodo reports that Seymour fell in love with Takia (the name bestowed by her current owner) when she was a neglected neighborhood dog. Often, when the animal lover walked by, the pup was chained up and did not have food or water in its bowls.
Last summer, Seymour summoned the courage to approach Takia. To her delight, the Akita was incredibly friendly and well-behaved. From there, a friendship blossomed. Seymour stopped by the neighbor’s house three times a week to fill up her food bowl.
When she could no longer stand to see the Akita mistreated, she called animal control. To her disappointment, the officers told her that as long as the dog had food, water, and shelter, it wasn’t technically neglected. So, Seymour continued to stop by and leave rations for the pup for an entire year.
Finally, she introduced Takia to her mother. Her mother encouraged Seymour to listen to her gut and call animal control one more time. The very next day, she received a call from animal control officers informing her that Takai’s owners had been forced to surrender the dog. Furthermore, they were looking for someone to adopt the lovable pooch. Seymour was elated to volunteer.
The 5-year-old pup is now a “changed dog,” according to Seymour. Takia delights in sleeping on her human’s bed every night and roaming around the Virginia property.

“There’s just something about her, I got super lucky, I really did,” Seymour told The Dodo Soulmates. “It’s like, 100 per cent she is so appreciative of everything.”
A neighbor of Takia’s former owner commended Seymour for adopting the lucky pup.
“I am so glad [Seymour] got her!” wrote the neighbor. “I live next door and we also fed her and called animal control and they would tell us the same thing about the house. My husband would bring her food and water and my sister-in-law across the street would too. So animal control must have thought the owner was, but they never did.”
