These 17 Drawings Are A Deep Reflection Of What’s ‘Wrong’ With Society

For centuries art and symbols have been used as a medium for telling the story of society and the planet. Sculptures have captured the faces of early human and animal life. Cave art has told stories of the rituals of the past. Hidden within Da Vinci’s paintings, symbols have told stories for those with eyes to see.

Today is no different. We have artists like Banksy capturing injustice using metaphorical imagery, using grafiti. We have journalist, music and film bringing light to different elements of society for all to see. Some of this art is empowering, and some disempowering, but for those who are willing to look in the right places, there is a wealth of knowledge to be found.

Today’s society is facing some challenges, but the difference between now and much of time gone by, are these challenges are out in the open and being challenged by society. This is what allows artists like Al Margen to create such profound and thought-provoking work.

Spoken in symbolistic drawings, the following images give us a chance to reflect on certain aspects of society. These powerful images can also help us to reflect on the role we may be playing in some of the issues portrayed.

How do these images make you feel? Are you contributing to the issues they represent? What can you do to change your own behaviour that contributes to the stories told in these images?

When we choose to peacefully act and stand up against injustice, real change starts to happen.
