Why Celebrities Are Suddenly Sharing (Really) Embarrassing Photos Of Themselves
By Amanda Froelich Truth Theory
If you’ve been paying any attention to the internet lately, you’ll notice that a hoard of celebrities have shared embarrassing pictures of themselves. The dorky photos are doing more than inspiring people to smile, they’re raising money for relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
During a segment on The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert and television actor Nick Kroll called on their celebrity friends to post pre-pubescent pictures to social media using the hashtag #PuberMe.
Funniness aside, the duo agreed that for every celebrity who posted an embarrassing teen photo, they would donate a certain amount of money to relief efforts. Reportedly, they will continue donating “until we run out of money.”
The aid can’t come soon enough to residents in Puerto Rico. After the island was hit by a Category 4 storm named Hurricane Maria approximately one-and-a-half weeks ago, its 3.5 million citizens have been without power. Unfortunately, the electrical grid is expected to be off-line for the next couple of months.
Since Colbert and Kroll made the announcement Wednesday night, dozens of stars have posted goofy photos of themselves as teenagers. They include former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda and talk show hosts Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel.
It’s safe to say people can’t get enough. And fortunately, all of the entertainment is raising funds for an important cause.
