Today a three-judge panel has denied the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe an injunction against Energy Transfer Partners. The injunction would stop work on the a 1,200 mile oil pipeline that would run through sacred ground, and the police have turned up heavily armed to make their presence felt.
US TV star Shailene Woodley was one of the peaceful protesters at the Dakota Access Pipeline and she managed to capture 2 hours of the stand off on a live Facebook stream. Eventually the stream ended in her arrest for trespass. But not after the video going viral and now having reached nearly 2 million views.
There has been a point made from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for the protests to take place in peace, with the only violence that has erupted so far being on the 3rd of September when G4S staff (a private security firm hired by Energy Transfer Partners) sprayed protesters (including pregnant women) and released attack dogs on unarmed protester.
The video below shows the military style intimidation that is being exercised on peaceful protesters who are trying to preserve their land and stand up to corporate bullying.
