Blue eyes are really a specialty. If a person has blue eyes, most of the times they get special points in the ‘Attractiveness scale’ of any man or woman. But how special is the blue eye? Let’s delve into it further.

According to a study, people who have blue-eyes may be sharing a common ancestor. The person must have lived around 6,000-10,000 years ago and had a genetic mutation that led to the eyes becoming blue. Who knew that that person would give rise to such attractive beings all over the world?

The findings of this origin were delayed because of one slight overlook. The OCA2 gene decides on the brownness of an eye. Quite naturally, scientists noticed the lack of brown tinge in blue eyes and conducted extensive research on the OCA2 gene. But the answer lies elsewhere.

The mutation was discovered on a gene called HERC2. This gene has the special ability to block the brown color thereby revealing the heart-stealing blue of the eyes. It has been found that each person with blue eyes has the same mutation.

So, how did it originate? It is possible that the mutation occurred in one person when humans were traveling from Africa to Europe. It makes sense – that’s why most people with blue eyes are Europeans.

But since, the gene is traced back to one European ancestor – doesn’t that make the family tree really weird?
