I love Finland- they are ahead of most of the globe on many matters! Outside of oriental countries they are the number 1 in education, they have According to the World Audit study been ranked as the least corrupt and most democratic country in the world and have also been ranked first on the Environmental Sustainability Index of Yale and Columbia University.

But even by Finland’s standards this is pretty epic-

Finland is planning to pay all of its citizens, 800 euros ($1,187) per month regardless of income, in an attempt to replace all benefits packages. The plan is use this system to decrease unemployment rates, which reached a high rate of 8.7 per cent this October.

Finland’s current system means that due to a hit on welfare payments and the time it takes benefits to be reinstated once a job is over, taking on low-paid temp work can often leave people in a worse situation than not working at all.

The plan is to create a proposal to be presented in November 2016, and there is no further information on how the government will raise the funds.

If all the 5.4 million Finns were given 800 euros a month, it would cost the government 52.2 billion euros a year. The government has projected a 2016 revenue that is 3 billion short of this figure.

Kela, the organisation that manages benefits in Finland has proposed a trial in which they have said Fins will receive 550 euros per month and reassess the proposal after the initial pilot phase.

There is no lack of support for the idea as Finnish prime minister Juha Sipila has said- “For me, a basic income means simplifying the social security system.” and according to Kela research- Nearly 69% of the Finnish population support the idea.

I don’t know about you, but I like the idea. People will have a lot more breathing room and be working because they want to work over, working because they need to survive. This leads to more people living out their dreams, being happy and being able to innovate and create things that benefit humanity. Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment below!
