The root chakra (your first chakra) is located at the base of the spine at the perineum. This chakra’s role is one of survival and all things related to survival be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

This chakra is the chakra on which your entire system is built. It is like your foundations and once you get things right in this areas it can be a lot easier to find all around balance in the others.

Chakra Needs/Inner state-

To help this chakra function on a normal level you will need a sense of inner calm when appropriate. You will need a feeling of inner security and stability and also security and stability in your health, wealth and relationships. Also to have a healthy relationship with the things which you need without feeling guilty about having them.

Rights-

The rights associated with this chakra are your right to have what you need and your right to be here and exist while living your true purpose without judgement of yourself.

Senses-

This chakra is related to your sense of smell as smell is closely related to survival.

Colour-

The colour related to the root is red so when focusing on this chakra try to surround yourself with as much red as possible. If you can wear red clothes do so, have red bed sheets, just try and see red as much as possible.

Foods

Red foods like-

Beetroot

Cherries

Goji Berries

Pomegranates

Raspberries

Red apples

Red grapes

Strawberries

Tomatoes

Watermelon

and anything else red, natural and nontoxic are good when focusing on this chakra. Also route foods like carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, turmeric, ginger and any route vegetables that come from the ground are all good while working on the root.

How to balance this chakra-

As this chakra relates to your basic fundamental needs for survival to balance this chakra you have to focus on some of the more basic fundamental needs that all human beings have. Which would be sleep, eating, drinking water, going to the toilet, breathing and movement. Take inventory of these areas in your life and try to work to resolving the areas where an imbalance may lie.

These areas are the simpler and sometimes overlooked areas of development and sometimes we search for complex solutions to our problems when simply drinking a litre more water, sleeping an extra hour or doing 10 minutes of walking could help us overcome our problems.

Also try to connect with the earth as much as possible when working with this chakra, try taking long walks, sitting in your garden on the ground and just trying to be connected with the earth below you.

The main demon we face in this chakra is that of fear, so when working in this chakra it is important that when confronted by a fearful situation, as long as we are not in any danger we try to face them head on.
