Mental illness is something that has become a lot more openly spoken about in recent years, meaning that there is also an increasing understanding around the issue. Italian architect and graphic designer, Federico Babina, has released a project which depicts mental illness in a visual form for everyone to see. The project is called ‘Archiatric’ and features 16 different mental illness conditions as works of architecture in a variety of states of repair. The designs are abstract, but reviews have suggested that they’re incredibly accurate for those who are living with mental illness. An animated video posted to the Barcelona-based digital artist’s YouTube page further intensifies the effect of the images. Babina is known for his architecture-inspired work, which uses a unique geometric style, which is often surreal in design, but truthful and even humorous when examined more closely.
