This Philly Craft Beer Sold Out After It Was Brewed To Support Black Lives Matter

Since the last few months, protests for racial equality have been raging throughout the US. Even as the pandemic continues, many local businesses have stepped up in support of the movement. The beer Industry, on their part, has come up with the Black Is Beautiful beer. All the profits earned from this beer has been reserved for social groups supporting racial justice and equality. 

Philadelphia Homebrew Club recently got in on the initiative too. They posted about the project on their Facebook page. The post attracted many homebrewers to join in too. Not just that, several local brewers have also taken it upon themselves to brew the Black Is Beautiful beer and donate the earnings to Philly BLM. 

This wonderful initiative was brewed by Weathered Souls Brewing Co. in Texas. The African American owners of the brewery hope to highlight the many injustices suffered by the Black community. They also encouraged other brewers to brew the given recipe. The only condition is that all the proceeds must go to local organizations working towards police reforms.

As soon as Marie Claire Archibald, a homebrewer, noticed the project, she contacted a local brewery to help. Love City Brewing in Callowhill was the chosen one. The brewers added a touch of toasted coconut in their version of the Black Is Beautiful beer. The packages were available for $15 per 4 pack and $85 per case. Not surprisingly, the sweet and nutty stout was sold out within a week.

Love City Brewing co-founder, Melissa Walter, praises the beer industry for always stepping up to support justice and equality for all.

Walter contacted the Harris Family Brewery and Two Locals Brewing Co. after hearing about the new project. Both the breweries are owned by people of color. The three groups teamed up to brew the beer in Walter’s production area. 

Double Eagle Malt co-owner, Scott Broussard, also donated around 1,600 pounds of their malt. He said that after witnessing the aggressive retaliation by the police force, he wanted to help the way he can. 

Several men in Fishtown had gathered with hammers and bats back in June. They argued that they were there to protect local businesses and the police from the BLM protestors.

The team got together and canned about 160 cases on Wednesday. The first batch was put up for sale around noon. To the team’s surprise, almost half the batch was sold by 3:30 pm. 

The Two Locals Brewing Co. founders stated that the beer industry’s active involvement in the BLM movement showed their dedication to justice. 

Meanwhile, Archbold made her purchase on Wednesday and became the first one to buy Philly’s Black Is Beautiful beer. 

As of now, there has been no word about Brewing another batch. However, Walter mentioned that more updates will be posted on their social media pages.
