After Spending 10 Hours Cleaning Streets Following Protest This Teen Was Given A Full Scholarship, Car And Insurance

Last Sunday, when a protest took place at Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, New York, Antonio Gwynn Jr. noticed all the litter left behind. This teen saw the broken glass and rubbish on the roads and knew his neighbors will need to use those roads the next day.

So this young man took a brush, some rubbish bags, and went out of the door at 2 am. He remembered his late mother and stayed on the road for nearly 10 hours. He said this is something his mother would have done as well. Antonio spent the wee hours of the night cleaning up Bailey Avenue, and in the morning when a few people came to clean, they were pleasantly surprised!

While the whole neighborhood was thankful for this gesture, 27 years old Matt Block went a step further. He owned a 2005 red Mustang convertible and decided to gift it to Antonio. Matt held the car dear, but he rarely used it. He didn’t want to just sell it, so gifting it to Antonio seemed to be the perfect solution.

Antonio had been asking for advice online since he wanted to buy a car, and Matt knew how he could thank this teen for his hard work.

Matt told CNN: “I couldn’t come to grips with selling it and this was a good way of getting rid of it and knowing that it’s going to go to someone who appreciates it.”

But the best surprise was when Antonio told Matt that his late mother used to drive a Mustang convertible, that too, red!

Matt was not the only one to express his gratitude to the young man. A local businessman, Bob Briceland, runs an insurance agency. When he learned about what Matt had done for Antonio, he offered to cover one year’s insurance for the car.

Bob told WKBW: “I just felt compelled to help him out. We just need to get together our whole city and show people how there’s so many good people here.”

When this news spread to Medaille College about the young who spent the whole night cleaning Bailey Avenue, they offered Antonio a full scholarship. Antonio will join the college later in the year to study business.

Amidst all the problems our country is facing right now, this news serves as a reminder of man’s humility and kindness. Antonio was surprised, overjoyed, and tears were his only resort.

He said to WKBW: “I literally stopped, pulled over, and started crying. So did my great aunt. My little cousin did also.”

“I appreciate everything everyone is doing for me.”

Antonio wants to study mechanics along with business, and open a repair shop of his own. He wishes to keep paying it forward. He has started with helping out his great aunt, whom he has brought a new phone and he also helps her with rent.

Black lives matter even when we don’t have protests going on around us. We don’t need protesters or anybody else to remind us that the Black community deserves every bit of love and respect the rest of humanity gets. This young boy from Buffalo reminds us that it does not take an awful lot to help our neighbors, irrespective of their skin color.
