To prevent vacationers from gathering at an old quarry on Harpur Hill, near Buxton, the Derbyshire Police  poured black dye into the water “to make the water look less appealing.” This move is just the most recent of many strange efforts taken by authorities to prevent people from visiting their favorite spots amid the ongoing quarantine.

According to The Evening Standard, the Derbyshire Police Department wrote on its Facebook page that, “Yesterday we received reports that people were congregating at the ‘Blue Lagoon’ in Harpur Hill, Buxton. No doubt this is due to the picturesque location and the lovely weather (for once!) in Buxton. However, the location is dangerous and this type of gathering is in contravention of the current instruction of the UK Government. With this in mind, we have attended the location this morning and used water dye to make the water look less appealing.”

However, it appears that the plan may have backfired, because the department’s message ended up tipping everyone off about the spot, which is a bit off the map and unknown to most locals. The local government has previously used similar tactics to keep people away from the quarry, because there were concerns about toxicity levels in the water. The beautiful color of the water in the quarry is reportedly caused by toxic chemicals in the quarry stone, which can cause skin irritations.

Last week, Truth Theory reported that skaters left a pile of sand out front of city hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after officials filled their skatepark with sand to prevent them from using it during the stay at home orders.

In recent weeks, many places have started to slowly loosen restrictions on businesses as the quarantine measures approach their 3rd or 4th month, depending on where you are located.
