If you love plants, and the ocean, then you may want to consider getting yourself a Crested Senecio Vitalis; a succulent plant more commonly known as a Mermaid’s Tail.

There’s certainly something unique about them. And depending on your own perspective, these extraordinary plants look either like a mermaid’s tail, or a whale’s tail as is dives beneath the waves.

Staying with the ocean theme, these succulents are usually blue or green in colour, and pop nicely when displayed against a white wall.

How big will your mermaid plant be?

Wondering how much space you would need to bring one of these mermaid’s tails into your living space? They tend to be wider rather tall – reaching up to two foot high and three to five foot wide.

The Senecio Vitalis belongs to the asteraceae family and originates from the east coast of South Africa.

Succulents are an amazing sub-species of plants, which come in so many weird and wonderful shapes, textures, colors and forms.

They tend to be tougher than most plants and require less maintenance and less water. That’s because they’re used to surviving on limited water sources such as mist and dew in ecosystems with scarce water supply.

They’re generally not too expensive. And the other bonus is that it’s usually easy to propagate new plants from off-cuts.

Succulents are hugely popular and have some big online followings. Check out some more spectacular succulents on these Instagram accounts:
