Beekeeping can be fun and rewarding, but it is also a bit more complicated than it looks, and often takes a lot of time and practice to master.

One of the most interesting mistakes that a new beekeeper can make is leaving frames out of the hive, or allowing for too much space in between the frames.

When this happens, the bees will often create a rouge and unexpected hive. In many cases, this can cause a bit of a problem for the beekeper, but a recent post to Reddit showed that one colony of bees created a work of art when the frames were left out of the hive.

Not much is known about the image below, aside from the fact that it was posted by the Reddit user “KamikazeChief” earlier this week. Some experts believe that the bees created this structure to optimize for airflow, temperature, and ventilation.

While there is not much of an explanation for why the hive turned out this way, it is not necessarily strange or unusual for a hive of bees to freestyle on their own creation when the frames are left out by the beekeeper, but usually, the forms that are left behind are not this artistic.

The image below, taken from the blog Modern Farmer, shows how hives can sometimes become unmanageable when they grow too large because frames were left out. According to the blog, this is one of the typical mistakes that beekeepers make when they are just starting out.

In some cases, these types of rogue hives can be unmanageable for beekeepers, but it is very interesting to see what these creatures can create when they are left to their own devices.

If you ever felt like you would be interested in beekeeping, it is now easier than ever with simple new designs that allow people to enter the vocation with very little experience or exposure to the bees.
