As more and more people realize the effects of climate change and how we are contributing to it, they are taking major steps to do their bit for our climate. And by now the horrifying effects of plastic have been well-established. While a few can afford a zero-waste lifestyle or live an organic lifestyle, the masses are yet to be released from the grips of plastic and there needs to be a change from the corporate level.

But a drugstore in the Czech Republic is recently making headlines because of its efforts to reduce plastic waste. Why? While many stores still sell plastic bottles, this store in the Czech Republic has recently installed a machine to dispense liquid hygiene products. No more buying plastic bottles every time people need some shampoo!

The first image of this news came from the Redditor Lord-AG. The Redditor explained how the Czech Republic now is coming up with the idea of stores where one can buy liquid products like body wash, shampoo, shower gel, etc. by weight. The customers can bring their own bottles and containers and fill however much they need.

Some drugstores in the Czech Republic introduced shampoo and shower gel filling machines. Customers can refill their empty bottles with various products so they don’t have to buy a new one everytime from r/interestingasfuck

Most of our products, be it food or hygiene, still comes either wrapped in plastic or in plastic containers. And companies produce such containers because there is demand. But once people actually have other options like these filling machines, everyone will shift to such sustainable methods.

When the customer is conscious of the impact they make, no matter how little, they will be encouraged to do more. Bulk purchases are easier for customers and also helps reduce unnecessary pollution. People will finally get the chance to recycle a few of their plastic containers and thus help the environment.

While bulk sections are on the rise, they are mostly limited to dry food. Some stores carry sections where people can get rice, cereals, nuts, and such in bulk and also they are not sold in any plastic containers. If you are lucky, you might even get oil, molasses, and vinegar in bulk sections too. Some of such stores include Fairway, Whole Foods, Sprouts, and The Fresh Market.

We all need to make better choices not just for ourselves but also for the environment. Plastic-free, zero-waste lifestyle should be the aim. You can learn about bulk shopping on the internet as well.
